Class of 2026 Red Hawk Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
  • Athletic Recognition

Cedar Springs High School is proud to announce the induction of four outstanding individuals into the Red Hawk Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2026 class represents excellence across athletics, leadership, and service, leaving a lasting legacy on Cedar Springs High School and the greater Red Hawk community.

Tyler Emmorey is being honored for his exceptional accomplishments in cross country and track. As a high school athlete, Emmorey became one of the top ten boys cross country runners in school history, recording an impressive time of 15:53 in 2006. He continued his success at Grand Valley State University, where he earned multiple All-American honors, set school records, and dominated the GLIAC in events ranging from the mile to the 5,000 meters. Emmorey helped lead his team to top finishes at the NCAA Championships and captured Midwest Regional titles, consistently demonstrating dedication, speed, and leadership throughout his collegiate career.

Norm Hill, a true Red Hawk basketball legend, is recognized for his historic impact on Cedar Springs basketball. Hill played three years of varsity basketball and became the first player in school history to score 1,000 career points, finishing with an outstanding 1,100 points. His career-defining performance came in the district finals against Coopersville, where he set both school and tournament records by scoring 54 points in a single game. Known for his scoring ability, leadership, and humility, Hill’s legacy continues to inspire future Red Hawk athletes.

Autumn Mattson is being inducted for her lasting contributions as both a coach and athletic administrator. Mattson served as the varsity girls basketball coach from 2003–2007, leading her teams to two district championships. She later spent 10 years as Cedar Springs High School’s athletic director, where her leadership helped shape the department's culture. During her tenure, she was instrumental in developing the Athletic Leadership Council, Red Hawk Kids Club, and Staff Appreciation initiatives. Her vision and commitment left a profound and enduring impact on students, staff, and the community.

Nick Wolfe rounds out the 2026 class as one of the most accomplished basketball players in Cedar Springs history. A standout from 1990–1994, Wolfe earned First Team All-State honors as a junior and senior while averaging 31 points per game. He finished his high school career with 1,711 points, placing him second among the program’s all-time greats. Wolfe continued his success at Lake Superior State University, where he became the school’s career three-point leader, served as a two-time team captain, and helped secure GLIAC league and tournament championships. He later played professionally overseas in Portugal during the 2001–2002 season.

“These four individuals represent the very best of Red Hawk Athletics,” said Cedar Springs Athletic Director Matt Moffett. “Their achievements, leadership, and dedication have shaped our programs and continue to inspire our students and community.”

Cedar Springs Public Schools congratulates Tyler Emmorey, Norm Hill, Autumn Mattson, and Nick Wolfe on their induction into the Red Hawk Athletic Hall of Fame and thanks them for their lasting contributions to Red Hawk pride and tradition.

Varsity Boys Navigate Busy Week, Earn Key Road Win with basketball court
  • Boys Basketball

The Red Hawk varsity boys basketball team faced a busy and challenging week as winter weather continued to shuffle the schedule.

On Wednesday, the Red Hawks returned to action for the first time in nearly two weeks, hosting Coopersville. Cedar Springs came out with strong energy and held a 14–10 lead after the first quarter. The Broncos found their rhythm in the second quarter and carried that momentum into the second half, handing the Red Hawks a 60–43 loss. Kaiden Dreyer led the team with 12 points, while Brayden Jacobs added 10.

The quick turnaround sent the Red Hawks on the road Thursday to face league-leading Greenville. The Yellow Jackets showcased their shooting early, building a large first-half lead. Cedar Springs tightened up defensively after halftime but struggled to find a scoring rhythm, falling 79–33. Keenen Hullinger paced the Red Hawks with 10 points.

Saturday marked a long-awaited trip to Allendale in a game that had been postponed twice. The Red Hawks responded with confidence, jumping out to a 17–12 lead after the first quarter. Offensive struggles in the second quarter limited Cedar Springs to just two points, sending the team into halftime trailing 23–19. The deficit grew to 11 late in the third quarter, but the Red Hawks refused to back down.

A strong defensive effort and clutch shooting fueled a big fourth-quarter comeback, as Cedar Springs poured in 26 points in the final frame. Back-to-back three-pointers from Coleman Vree and Keenen Hullinger ignited the rally, and steady free-throw shooting from Hullinger and Conner Dines sealed a hard-fought 57–53 victory. Hullinger led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Dines with 14. Dreyer and Jacobs each added eight.

Dines also provided a spark off the bench with key steals, rebounds, and relentless energy, helping lift the Red Hawks to a confidence-building win.

Varsity boys basketball enjoyed a strong holiday break with two hard-earned wins.

On Monday, Dec. 22, the Red Hawks hosted Battle Creek Harper Creek in their fourth game in seven days. The game was close from the opening tip. Harper Creek led 14-12 after the first quarter. Cedar Springs responded in the second quarter, scoring 21 points to take a 33-26 halftime lead. The Beavers hit tough shots late and the game stayed close, but the Red Hawks held on for a 59-56 win.

Kaiden Dreyer led the way with 21 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the field. Brayden Jacobs scored 11 points, Keenen Hullinger added 10, and Conner Dines finished with eight. Ty Lawson recorded eight assists with zero turnovers, making key passes to open shooters.

On Saturday, Jan. 3, the Red Hawks faced Godwin Heights in the inaugural “Be Legendary” Showcase at Grace Christian University. The Red Hawks scored 15 points in the first half, but strong defense kept the game close at 21-15. After trailing by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, the offense picked up and forced overtime. Cedar Springs secured a 52-49 win with key defensive stops.

Keenen Hullinger led the team with 18 points and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Brayden Jacobs scored nine points, Cody Greenland added eight, including two key three-pointers, and Conner Dines finished with seven.

The varsity Red Hawks faced a challenging week with three hard-fought games, including two tough road contests. Despite the results, Cedar Springs showed resilience, growth, and determination in every matchup.

On Tuesday, the Hawks traveled to Jenison and mounted an impressive late-game rally, cutting the deficit to just three points with 20 seconds remaining. The comeback effort came up short as Jenison closed out the game at the free-throw line, earning a 61–55 win. Seth Williams led the balanced scoring attack with 12 points, followed closely by Keenen Hullinger with 11 and Brayden Jacobs with 10. Freshman Coleman Vree sparked the fourth-quarter push with nine points, providing a big energy boost.

Thursday marked the RCA opener as the defending league champion Greenville Yellow Jackets visited Cedar Springs. The young Red Hawks went toe-to-toe with Greenville all night, playing inspired defense and holding the Jackets well below their scoring average. With seven seconds left, Cedar Springs had a shot in the air to take the lead, but it rimmed out. Greenville secured the rebound and sealed the 55–51 game at the free-throw line. Brayden Jacobs led all scorers with 21 points, and Keenen Hullinger added 12.

The week wrapped up Saturday with a non-conference road game at Mattawan. Cedar Springs came out strong on both ends of the floor, taking a 27–19 lead into halftime behind locked-in defense. Momentum shifted in the second half, and despite another strong effort, the Hawks fell 53–46. Cody Greenland led the way with 14 first-half points, and Kaiden Dreyer contributed 10.

The Red Hawks continue to compete with grit and growth as the season moves forward.
